I Brittah'd it

ALLODS contacted me and told me i misunderstood the directions. Apparently i wasn't suppose 'simply' illustrate the dresses from the references onto the 3d render they gave me but i was suppose to design my own versions... FAIL. I'm not sure if they already chose someone for the job, but I think personally, I will redue the test and finish it for my sake. It is a great exercise and it would be great for my illustration portfolio.

I decided to take up their other test which is a Sci-Fi soldier test. I blotched in some interesting shapes and started sketching in the designs. This might actually take some time... But hopefully when it's all said and done, I'll have a really interesting character.

Late Night ASOIAF Doodles

Every week for almost a year now I've been listening to Ivan Hernandez and Red Scott's podcast, Boars,Gore and Swords. They 2 comedians who initially started talking about the show but started to read and comment on the books right after. And everything they say is hilarious and golden. I decided to use their banner on their podcast facebook page as a reference and illustrate them.

They really loved it and made it their banner! Lol. Boars,Gore, And Swords Podcast Facebook Page If you guys are a fan of Game of Thrones and the book series, I highly recommend listen to their podcast. They can be found on iTunes as well.

I love the show, don't get me wrong, but the problem with it is, when you're reading, you see the characters in your mind, but since the show started, I've been replacing those images in my head with how they look on the show. Still looking forward to Beric Dondarian though. They showed him in season 1 but I'm sure they will recast him. I just hope they don't downplay his flaming sword like they did Stannis's flaming sword.

The Deity of 2 Swords

I saw a posting on for ALLODS Team seeking a Freelance Character Concept artist. Their art test was to digitally paint probably 1 dress onto the 3d render of the woman they gave me. However, I ended up doing all 6. I enjoyed the challenge. The only 1 I'm dissatisfied with is the 1st black dress on the 2nd row. It was hard to replicate the beads or whatever is shimmering on the dress... Hopefully i hear from them.

Anywho, during my week of applying for jobs, I realized something. After working at a casual gaming company with a small art department, I knew they required us to do a lot there. I did everything from 3D/2D/Animation/HUD/Illustrations/Texturing/Particle Effects/Rigging/etc. Whatever needed to be done, I did it if I could. In that environment it was good to know all those skills. The problem lies in applying for studios that require expertise in specific areas. In my latest Demo Reel I compiled most of the work I've done into what I think is a really great generalist reel. The problem is, most positions are calling for either 3D or 2D. I can't be both.

I feel like I have to choose between the 2. 2D or 3D, that is the question. I love both so much but until i can settle on 1, I don't feel like i can excel to my potential in either...

Either way, I have to start somewhere and this month isn't over yet. My search continues. Job hunting is fun and  disappointing at the same time. Fun in that I'm coming across all these awesome companies and sometimes I apply to them, but most times there's no positions open.

I'm not losing hope. This is going to be the epic year of happenings and it all starts this week.

I was told I need to shorten my Demo Reel because everyone in the industry has A.D.D. I knocked off 2 minutes. But i might need to condense it some more and add some new clips.

Art Pooping

I haven't posted anything in the longest time. But i went to Philly Comic con yesterday and really got inspired to keep my website updated. Had pretty cool convos with 2 local artist that worked on MTG and I think I'm going to go back tomorrow to give them my old business(really need to updated my cards) card so they can check out my stuff.
What a awkward conversation that will be. Hey guys I was here yesterday, my bad, I came back today and just wanted to give you this sucky business card so you can check out my site and maybe stay in contact or some shiz... Again i love your work. Derpy derp.
Anyways, i haven't done much illustrated work in awhile and this is pretty much all i an muster up without giving away any of my comic strip work, which i think I will get back into soon. Legend of April Winters is still coming. Need to update the When Spring Comes page. I still feel horrible about not finishing Pancake Rambo...
What i do have should be a delight for all the Game of Thrones, Avengers and Gears of War fans. The Gears of War piece was done for the deviantart competition a year ago but i never got around to posting it on here. I think it was just frustrating that i didn't even place top 100... But be on the lookout for more Game of Thrones comic strips. I wish there was a better way of showcasing these. People on deviantart and Reddit aren't really flocking to them as I would have liked and I'm horrifically late in Tumblr'ing... Maybe when i crank out a few more the popularity will go up. Who knows.
Apart from these I've been learning Zbrush and putting my demo reel together. But after today's Q&A with some artist at comic con, I think i'm going to take out a few pieces before i render anything final.
Here are some of my ZBrush pieces. This program seems to be endless... You think you've learned it all but the rabbit hole just keeps going deeper. Its not enough to learn just how to sculpt or texture, you have to learn rigging, materials, lighting, hair, dynamesh, etc and the bazillion different ways of doing things. On top of that GoZ into another program like Max and then learning how to do the proper shaders/materials in that program and create the lighting for it and particles. It definitely hurts ones head after a while.
I decided for my first legit project in ZBrush I going to make a few Planeswalkers because i had just started getting into Magic a few months ago and was captivated by the lore and the characters, especially the planeswalkers. And the 1st one i decided to do Gideon Jura. I learned a lot of what to do and what not to do on the project. Was definitely a wake up call to see my computer starting to chug when the model went over 30 million quads. Lesson learned. Also messed around with the Fibermesh a lot... Gideon has pretty flowy hair a man like Fabio or... Snoop Dogg...
Chandra Nalaar was really ambitious in that i wanted to create something more realistic, but how realistic can a character get if her hair is made of fire...? I did learn how to use shadowbox and that made texturing her face amazingly simple it almost feels like cheating...
I rendered it in Max and it broke my heart when i found out i couldn't retain any of what the metal looks like in ZBrush... At this point i really was tired and didn't feel like learning the INs and OUTs of the material editor in Max... One day. But apart from that i think it came out pretty good. The particle editor almost the same exact story. It was like looking at a NASA training simulation for astronauts... I Photoshopped the fire and at that point realized i didn't model goggles... Aaaahhhhhh f*****************..... Whatever. Next time. And that is my art dump.
